SEND

At Hove Micro School, we provide a truly personalised learning experience, ensuring every child thrives in a nurturing and inclusive environment. With small class sizes (a maximum of eight students), we tailor learning to each child’s needs, using PDA-appropriate language and giving students a level of autonomy over their learning. Each term, students collectively choose a topic, which is then integrated across lessons, fostering engagement and curiosity. Additionally, every child has the freedom to opt out of activities and pursue personal projects based on their individual interests.

Our commitment to inclusivity is evident in our flexible approach—students can take breaks whenever they need and have access to sensory-friendly breakout spaces. Our team includes trained mental health first aiders who provide one-on-one emotional support, helping children understand and regulate their emotions through tailored interventions.

We embrace multi-sensory and project-based learning, ensuring that lessons are engaging and accessible. Resources are bespoke and created with each child’s interests in mind—for example, personalised communication cards, energy check-ins using the ‘spoons’ metaphor, and the ‘just right’ zones of regulation model and visual guides featuring their own interests.

At Hove Micro School, we pride ourselves on our wealth of expertise in Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). Our team of dedicated professionals has extensive knowledge in areas such as Autism, ADHD, trauma-informed responses, PDA, dyslexia, and Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA). We also support children with speech and language difficulties, sensory processing differences, dyspraxia, dyscalculia, anxiety disorders, attachment difficulties, and social communication challenges. With a deep understanding of these diverse needs, we offer tailored support, ensuring every child receives the care and attention they deserve.

Our expertise extends beyond providing exceptional support to students; we are also dedicated to advancing teacher training in many areas of SEND. We ensure our neurodiversity training comes from autistic-led providers, equipping staff with the knowledge and skills to effectively meet the diverse needs of our children.

With a high staff-to-student ratio, a strong focus on mental health, and a celebration of neurodiversity, we create an environment where every child feels valued, supported, and empowered to reach their full potential.
